SMEC is Papua New Guinea's national agency for small and medium enterprise development, established under the SME Corporation Act 2014. Its roots go back to the Small Business Development Corporation, founded in 1975 — the organisation marked 50 years of service to PNG businesses in 2025.
SMEC coordinates the implementation of PNG's MSME Policy 2022 and the MSME Medium Term Development Plan 2022–2026, working with government agencies, banks, and development partners under its motto: "Growing MSMEs is Growing PNG!" It maintains a head office in Port Moresby and provincial offices across the country.
