Background
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) manages the Australian Government's international development cooperation. Australia is Papua New Guinea's largest and longest-standing development partner, supporting health, education, infrastructure, governance, and economic growth across the country.
Under its climate and development programs in the Pacific, Australia funds initiatives that help PNG communities and businesses become more resilient — including the Climate FIRST project.
Contribution to this project
- The Australian Government funds the Climate FIRST programme, which makes the nationwide SME database and this Digital Hub possible.
- DFAT's support covers the data collection program, the technology behind it, and the rewards offered to businesses that register.
- The registration data helps Australia and PNG target future business support where the evidence shows it is needed most.
